Thursday, July 1st, 2010

When managing a new internet companies website you will often need search engine optimization as a main ingredient. The problem is that search engine optimization can be so expensive!

Trying to perform SEO on your own can be tricky and take all of your precious time, although there are some really good blogs that have excellent information, there are plenty more blogs that offer misinformation instead. Weeding out the ample amounts of fiction from the facts can take dedication and often requires a lot of brainstorming and testing.

Some “SEO Blogs” will tell you to build links as fast as possible and to not focus on quality as much as quantity, which gives their readers tons of links that are irrelevant and can cause the “promoted website” to be looked upon by major search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing as spammy and ultimately send a website further away from success.

A lot of internet marketing companies will also claim to be the best search engine optimization firm on the planet, offering 100% money back guarantees if they don’t get your website listed on the top of search results in a set amount of time for the most competitive keywords or phrase that are virtually impossible to achieve in a short period of time.

Then when they fail, you will try to contact them noticing that their website no longer exists or that they have decided to quit responding to your emails, phone calls, and any other form of communication that you once had with them.

That is why you have to be careful! That is why I wrote this article!

When you need search engine optimization then you need a company you can trust! Try SEO Positions today and get 20% by mentioning the word “Ezine” when contacting us.

Effective Search Engine Optimization Strategies For the Small Business Owner

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Consider This:

  • Internet Advertising Reaches $5.5 Billion in First Quarter
  • There are now 1.5 BILLION people online (210 million on Facebook alone)
  • Your customers have changed the way the shop and buy. Have you changed your strategy?

For small business owners the Internet has proved to be extremely beneficial. Unlike traditional forms of broadcast marketing the Internet provides several advantages that help small businesses reach more potential customers. Often referred to as “non-interruptive,” or “inbound” marketing, internet marketing does not require interrupting your potential customers to get you message across. Quite the opposite actually, search engine marketing is reaching out to those already looking for you!

While traditional advertising requires organizations to spend thousands of dollars on branding and promotional activities, online advertising and effective search engine optimization (SEO) yield better results and can be achieved with a much smaller investment. Moreover, results achieved online offer more lasting benefits than conventional promotions and your return is measurable.

More than 83% of people searching for goods and services begin their search online. Therefore, if a small business can attract just a fraction of these potential customers to its website and convert then into buyers it will increase its revenues significantly.

Internet marketing, which includes SEO and SEM, requires formulating and implementing effective strategies to draw more targeted traffic that can eventually be converted into customers. Although every business must optimize their websites in the search engines, for an e-commerce website it is an ‘absolute must’. An e-commerce site is a website specifically built for the purpose of transacting business online.

Small business enterprises engaged in e-commerce face fierce competition today. To stay ahead of the competition they need to be visible to their audience and quickly draw the attention of prospective customers.

Ranking higher in the search engines is the first major task, followed by a successful branding/PR campaign. Internet marketing is a direct response medium. Branding is important, but improving your site popularity and getting more visitors to your landing pages is much more crucial in the beginning.

For a small business owner to achieve her highest and best return on investment, it is crucial to first formulate a strategy before starting an internet marketing campaign.

Only after a well thought out strategy and budget are in place should you then move forward with your SEO and SEM marketing plan. Never has it been more important to “measure twice, cut once”.

“Internet Marketing Is Your Future. If you don’t like change, you’re going to like irrelevance even less.” –General Eric Shineski, former Chief of Staff, US Army

5 Steps to Online Marketing Success:

1. Know your Audience. This is the most important task since your entire internet marketing campaign is directed towards your niche audience. If you fail to know your audience you will target the wrong people and subsequently lose business. Keeping your ear to the ground and doing a little research will help you find the right strategy and make good decisions from the outset.

2. Set a Goal. Unless you have a well-defined goal, you won’t have any direction. As Tony Robbins writes, “it is no use climbing to the top of the ladder only to find out your ladder is leaning against the wrong house.”

Once you have your goals clear and know your desired outcome you can choose the optimal amount of resources and channel your efforts in the right direction. The budget for small business marketing can be estimated once the goal is set.

Goal Setting Questions to Answer before you begin:

1. How many visitors do I need to get to my site to reach my financial goals? How many am I getting now? * What is a good “Click Through Rate” for my industry? * Are my website pages, products and services properly optimized on my site before I begin an off site campaign? * What should I consider a successful return on investment? * What percentage of my online marketing plan will be “organic,” or natural and what percentage will be paid search (i.e. Google AdWords PPC)? This is an extremely important question to consider as it will determine the specific internet marketing initiatives you will take. See number 3.

2. Select the right SEO techniques. There are several SEO techniques that will prove helpful for your internet marketing efforts. A mix of various techniques is necessary to have a balanced SEO campaign. Basic SEO will include a balanced combination of Niche Directory Submissions, Social Media Marketing, On Page optimization through effective Meta title and description tags, great SEO content, a working internal link structure and a site map to name just a few.

Other important techniques include link building campaigns and excellent Press Release and article marketing strategies.

3. Very important, don’t forget to monitor your competition! Google your keyword search terms and see who ranks highest for your competition. Then, review their sites in detail to see what you can learn.  What are they doing that you are not?  How is their site different from yours? What keywords do you notice are being used the most?

Figure out what’s working for them and where can you make changes to your strategy to achieve similar results. Hint: Use Alexa and other traffic/competitive measurement tools to check up on your competition.

4. Measure the Results. Without measuring the results and properly analyzing how your website is performing you won’t know if your marketing efforts are bringing positive results.

However, keep in mind it can sometimes take 3 to 6 months to get tangible results from an organic online advertising and marketing campaign. Measuring the results periodically will help you identify if anything is wrong in your strategy or if you need to intensify your campaign.

Keep what works, change what doesn’t. Simple

5. Make proper adjustments. After measuring your results to determine what’s working and what’s not you will need to make adjustments. Again, internet marketing is a direct response medium and A/B testing is crucial for success.

Make changes to improve your results. This will be an ongoing process, not a one time deal. Google, Yahoo and even the smaller search engines continually change their search algorithms. So, what worked one month may not work as well the next month. Simple testing and making minor adjustments when needed will keep you ahead of the curve.

Now, more than ever you need to have an effective Internet Marketing campaign in place. Traditional advertising continues to lose market share while online marketing continues to grow at a staggering pace.

21st Century Marketing: The Rules Have Changed. Selling to people who actually want to hear from you is more effective than interrupting strangers who don’t.”

8 Search Engine Optimization Mistakes to Avoid

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Search engine optimization or SEO is the cornerstone of inbound marketing – your strategy to get found. While it only accounts for 25% of page ranking, it is important to pick the most relevant keywords for your business.

Selecting the best keywords for your business is the foundation of SEO. The process of selecting the most relevant keywords that have a high search volume while a low difficulty rate to rank for can be difficult as there are only 10 spots on the first page of most search engines. While you can be doing many things right in your keyword research, we have identified things to avoid.

8 Search Engine Optimization Mistakes to Avoid

1. Non-Customer Driven Keywords. It is easier to rank for terms that are rarely searched but if rarely searched, you will not be found. Ex. for a Las Veges advertising agency, one would not target: advertising in the desert and expect tons of traffic.

2. Failure to Have a Title Tag. A title tag is what appears in the blue browser bar when viewing the page. It is important to have your most important keywords to the left of the title tag with 8-10 words maximum or 1-2 keyword phrases.

3. JavaScript Menu. This is not searchable. However if you just cannot depart, create a site menu so that the links can be crawled.

4. Too Many Keywords. Keyword mashing is a thing of the past. Trying to cram in too many keywords is a sure fire way to be ignored but the search engines.

5. Non-Unique Description. The meta description will not help with page ranking but it will entice people to read which will increase traffic and ranking. This is a snapshot of what the page is about.

6. Failing to Alt-Text Images. Images create that visual that is appealing to readers. Not adding keywords to the image is defeating the point of having an image.

7. Duplicate URL. Each page on your website or blog needs its own URL. Duplicate URLs tells the search engines nothing and you are overlooked.

8. URL with No Keywords. A URL that does not have keywords is telling the search engines to pass over that page. Why should they look at it if they do not understand what you are trying to say? Where are you adding value?

On-page search engine optimization is a quarter of the optimization process but nonetheless important. It is that crawlable content that helps with page ranking. It tells your story of why your content is relevant and worth reading.

Is Search Engine Optimization Internet Marketing?

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Is search engine optimization the same as online internet marketing? This is a difficult question to answer, especially in a forum like EzineArticles. It’s no secret that EzineArticles is a haven for SEO companies looking to create backlinks to their websites.

In a forum such as this, for me to suggest that search engine optimization is not online internet marketing is sure madness. But it isn’t.

Search engine optimization is marketing tool belongs that in the online marketer’s arsenal, nothing more. I believe that search engine optimization (SEO) has its place in the marketing mix. However, it would be folly to assume that SEO is so encompassing that it forms the entirety of internet marketing.

Positioning your website in search engines is akin to finding a good retail outlet. Having a good location is advantageous, but it simply isn’t enough. SEO is not the cure-all, end-all solution that small businesses should be looking for.

SEO ’solutions’ seems attractive to the small-time entrepreneur who is a neophyte in the world of marketing. Fancy words like ‘optimization’ and impressive brands like ‘google’ are invoked to create a sense of brand leverage. Perhaps if the small business man ‘optimizes’ his website, he can leverage on google’s popularity to achieve organic growth. This misguided belief is a fallacy that many SEO companies thrive on.

While SEO can act as a funnel that can increase traffic to your website, it may not necessarily drive sales. In order to sell, we need to apply universal marketing principles that have been tried and tested.

The product, price, promotion and place are still critical elements that must be utilized together in order to achieve long term growth. SEO merely helps you ‘place’ your virtual presence in a more advantageous position. It can open the door to your product or service, but if your entire marketing mix is not compelling, no one will walk through those doors.

To achieve online success, SEO must be combined with strong branding and promotional efforts. If your branding is strong, awareness becomes a non-issue. Consumers will be actively seeking you out. They will clamor to your business and kick the doors down in order to consume your product or service.

Search engine optimization is best used in conjunction with genuine brand strategies. Unfortunately, there are many SEO companies that have no experience or training in advertising, digital media or marketing. Some of these charlatans will be hard pressed to tell you what the 4Ps of marketing are. The next time you want to engage in online internet marketing, consider hiring professionals who have the resources and experience to manage your brand successfully.

Why You Should Start Your Search Engine Optimization Campaign Before Submitting

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Search Engine Optimization is a technique used to enhance the site ranking once a
relevant search is performed for a specific keyword or phrase.

Doing backward search engine optimization is a common mistake done by the new internet
entrepreneurs. Optimizing your web site is much more that just adding meta tags.

Actually most search engine optimization campaigns are starting when the web
site is ready. However it is more efficient and cost less to do it while your
website is being designed. I firmly believe that search engine optimization
and website design should be done at the same time.

When your web site is already completed and wish to perform SEO, you must restructure
many parts of the website. This is a time consuming process that will result in a bigger
bill! I already hear you say: ”My website is already done and online, am I screwed?”
Not really.

In order to find your targeted audience your website needs to be analyzed. Appropriate
action should be taken like selecting the right keywords, meta tags and on-site related
content. It will require more work but it can be done.

In Summary, Try to implement your SEO campaign while you are designing your website. Try
to already integrate all the basic components before submitting your website to the major
search engines and directories.

If you have no web design knowledge make sure to work with a qualified SEO professional
and web designer that are well aware of your targeted audience and needs.

Search Engine Marketing – “Ethical” Search Engine Optimization Exposed

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

What do you mean by “ethical”? Ethical is normally considered “the right thing” or morally
correct. Ethical is your conscience who says ‘yes’. In this context, what is ethical SEO?
Frankly speaking there is no such term in the correct sense of its meaning. SEO is a
method by which a website ranking can be improved by making it more visible and
acceptable to the search engines.

Basically speaking, all the SEO methods that fall into the category of ‘acceptable by
the search engines’ are ‘ethical SEO’. Those which are not acceptable by the search
engines, by default, become unethical SEO methods.

Search engine optimization is supposed to promote your website by giving it a higher
ranking. By using a search engine friendly website you will increase your ranking
and get more traffic and sales as a result. Hence, all the tricks that succeed in
this task are called ‘ethical SEO’ while those which fail are branded as opposite.

It is often seen that in order to get the required results, the SEO experts adopt
methods such as hidden texts, doorway pages and keywords stuffing.

These are definitely backdoor methods, which can never be described as ‘ethical.
Yet, that is what they are called – for the sole reason that they have been accepted
by the search engines and hence they work.

Don’t be fooled by SEO companies who use dirty tricks and tactics when optimizing your
web site. The search engines will penalize or even ban your web site for using such methods.

That way, you will need to understand that the term ‘ethical SEO’ is not really
about ethics. You would rather call it search-engine approved method. Once, you
understand the term, you will also understand that ethics is not really the criteria
that makes things work. Hence, the ‘ethical search optimization’ term is basically
an oxymoron!

Organic SEO or Organic Search Engine Optimization

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Organic SEO or Organic Search Engine Optimization is a effective way to have your website show up in the Search Engine Results. Organic or Natural SEO is to bring up a website without using any Pay per Click. As it says, the results should be organic/natural.
When a person visits Google and types in a query or keyword to find information or to buy/sell a product or for entertainment or for any research. They use a query or otherwise known as keyword to search for that particular related article or information.

Let’s say for example, if a person wants to find information on Real Estate Market in Sarasota, Florida. I use this example since Sarasota is popular for Real Estate, houses and Florida style Homes. The visitor will go to any search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask and type in that query in the search box and then the Search Engines gives you results based on the relevancy of the query comparing it with the website that has been stored in the index database. The way the search engines rank a website is using their own formula.

So what is the formula?

Well different search engine have different formula but most importantly most of the search engines look for some basic information in order to know more about the website. So the first thing when you publish your website online is the Crawlers or spiders ( A program used to visit all website) comes and visit your site, looks for a Title, so that it knows that this site is about xyz and it understands that your site is related to whatever you have in the title, So it is important to have a good Keyword rich title for your home and also for all the pages.

Then it looks for Description, A description is to tell both the search engines and the visitors what your site is about, and then it looks for Meta tags or HTML codes, these are codes to tell the spiders the information you like the spiders to gather, for example you meta tags should allow the robots to crawl your site, so that it can read and understand your site. If you don’t want the crawler to crawl your site, you may do so as well. But most importantly it is crucial to inform the crawler to allow access to your site. Once the spiders sees the access, it crawls within your site and looks for tags like what language is your site, what geographic the site needs to be. What content and if there are any Rating in the site and the name of the organization etc

Page Index

Now after looking at all these things, the crawler takes a snapshot of your website or cached. So it will take a snapshot and stores in the database or index. Indexing is same like indexing a book or folder. Here is where all the websites are stored and when a visitor search for a query the crawlers goes to the index and finds the relevant site and gives the results, Now how the ranking method works?? Well as mentioned above, the search engine uses formula to rank a site, such as a good Title, good description, good content with keywords within the copy, a good structure of your website, good H1, H2 tags with keywords, so that not only the search engines understand but also the people who visit the site can understand easily what the site is about, A good navigation structure. Quality and trusted links to the other sites and also links pointing to your website from reputed sites, these are some of the formulas that search engines use to rank a site, this is not all of the formula just to mention a few of them.

Once you follow the guidelines of search engines and build a website, your site will be more likely be indexed and stored in the database. Organic Search Engine Optimization is an ongoing process. It cannot be achieved by doing it one time, since the formula changes every often, not the basic formula but that are other formulas. A few to mention:

o The age of your domain name

o The amount of content available to the search engines

o The amount of websites linking to your website and their popularity

o The information architecture of your website

o The quality of a page build

o The relevancy to the end user

Search Engine Optimization Marketing Made Simple

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Search engine optimization marketing is now made simple, and is by far the best way to advertise your website, not only to the search engines, but to your customers, as well. Generic search advertising accounts for over half the business generated online. People naturally, will seek out what it is they want to know about, or what they plan to buy, by doing a general or generic search, for a particular item of interest.

There are some very strong and embedded myths, about getting your website on page one of the big search engines. Actually, anyone can achieve page one status, of the generic search results, with their website, rather easily. The belief that you must have several backlinks, is absolutely false. Oh sure, they do help, but only if you are not in any hurry, to see your efforts pay off. Merely, getting links from other websites, to yours, is futile in most cases.

SEO marketing can be achieved with virtually instant success, if you know what to do, where to do it, and who to listen to. The problem usually lies in knowing who and what to believe.

Search Engine Optimization Marketing is simple, if you know what the search engines want. Search engine marketing has evolved over the past 10 years, and yet, some of the most basic tasks are still not followed, in order to be successful. Once you realize some things are still a must, while other things are obsolete, you can begin to see what it is, that has to be done, in order to see your efforts pay off.

SEO marketing does not require a geek to get it done.

Marketing through search engine optimization, can afford you the cheapest, most reliable, advertising online. If your website is sitting on top of the search engine results pages, you will receive the best ad positioning and ad exposure available. The fact that you aren’t paying to have your website sitting in such a prime position is priceless.

There is one method that can get you on page one, within a few minutes, I know that sounds unheard of, but it’s true and very easy. It works over and over again. What would that information do for your business? Being in front of literally millions of viewers, within minutes, is like sending out a worldwide news flash. The big difference, is you can customize it to your business niche, so that you can lock in, like a laser target to the audience you want to find it.

If you want to learn how a non-techie, average joe, webmaster discovered this amazing secret and be able to apply his findings in real time today, then you should see what he can show you about search engine results.

Search Engine Optimization & Marketing

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

By definition Search Engine Optimization or SEO for short is the process of improving incoming traffic to a website from Search Engines. This can either be done naturally or organically. Most people will tell you that Search Engine Optimization is the KEY to building a great website, and honestly I have to agree. You can have the best products, the best website, or the best tools, but nothing beats having a website or web page that is optimized. Optimization has mainly to do with targeted keywords on a website. The better your keywords are the higher your ranks will be thus the more people will find your site when searching on a site like Google or Yahoo. Of course the keywords should be relevant to content on your site. For example if you have a website about cars, then you would want to include keywords about cars. Also be sure you have a clear and concise idea of what your site is about, putting a good keyword filled title will also bring people and search engines to your site. Don’t over do it though, let everything flow naturally.

Another large part of Search Engine Optimization is building your site so that its user friendly, this includes link building, rich content, and “clean” coding. There an age old adage I like to follow when making a website or writing in my business blog, and that is “content is king.” If you write good posts or blogs or put good information on a website, people will start flocking to your site more and more often. The main reason for this is the words your using aka the keywords. Again, don’t force it, if you force it and make it look like your writing just to get traffic people will more often than not, be turned off by this. Write about something you have a passion for, something that comes to you easily. Remember with better content comes higher ranks which will bring more people to your site. A few other ways to market your websites through Search Engine Marketing or SEM are included below:

Write a small description about your web page including some relevant keywords, through Meta Tagging.

If your site allows “tagging” when writing a blog or post, add a few relevant keywords about that particular blog.

Make sure your navigation system is user friendly.

Submit your website to several different search engines by using the “Submit Url” option. With Google it usually takes anywhere from a few weeks to a few months for them to actually add your site, but in the end it will be worth it. Theres a multitude of engines out there, take your pick, or pick them all.

Lastly, Promote! Promote! Promote! Theres a billion different ways to promote your website online through ads, classified sections, AdWords, bulletins, groups, links, etc. The tips above were just a few key ways to bring more people to your site and to optimize it.
