The Internet has opened the doors to global marketing and commerce. Now anyone locked away in Middleofnowhere, Unheardofcountry can sell his or her hand-painted wooden clogs to the entire world. Or, more applicable to our discussion, a Utah SEO company could offer its services to companies in every hidden corner of the Internet.

And surely the money, clients, and global reputation will soon follow.

Surely.

And surely if that is the case, there would be no reason for a Utah SEO company to focus their efforts on a smaller niche market. Not when we could have an entire world lining up at our door to buy our hand-painted wooden clogs or SEO packages.

Luckily, we all know that if someone uses three “surelys” in as many paragraphs, we know that the internal logic of the statement is about to throw a cog.

Sometimes, as the glitz and glamor of “the big time” starts obscuring our vision, we stop seeing a number of opportunities that are right in front of us.

“SEO” or “search engine optimization” are highly competitive keywords, and while there’s nothing wrong with shooting for the stars and hoping for all the traffic those keywords might lead to, you’ve got a long, hard road ahead before they begin to pay off.

Right now the top entries for “SEO” have been around for years and have accumulated hundreds of thousands of links. Not an easy mountain to climb, but when a keyword can receive more than a thousand searches a day it is a climb that just might be worth the effort.

It wont happen over night. But it could happen.

But what are you supposed to do until then?

There’s always Utah SEO.

Or New York, or Sioux Falls, or wherever.

Do these city-specific/niche keywords receive the same searches as the larger, generalized keywords?

Not even close.

Utah SEO gets a paltry few searches. New York only gets a few more.

So is that worth it?

Absolutely.

Using keywords like New York or Utah SEO are great examples of effective niche Internet marketing. And the benefits are impressive, despite the low numbers.

Niche marketing is both cost effective and results oriented. By researching and identifying your target market or existing niche, you will be able to start taking advantage of marketing strategies that can take you up a mountain that isn’t quite as daunting.

The big, generalized keywords can be dangerous beasts. No matter how much money and effort you put towards capturing them, they can somehow stay just beyond your reach for a very long time.

The localized, niche market keywords, on the other hand, can be just as tricky to capture, but for different reasons. Identification is the first step to getting a hold of it. You have to know exactly which of the smaller game is worth chasing down. Skillful keyword research and SEO implementation are essential to this process.

For example, while Utah SEO seems an obvious choice for a Utah company it may or may not be a good choice for SEO companies in Arizona, Idaho, or any other bordering state. Maybe they’re close enough that Utah SEO would be a valid keyword. Or maybe they’re not. Only extensive research into the niche will help you make that decision.

Or maybe you’re a giant SEO company who wants to target every state. Again, this may work, depending on the overall marketing strategy. On the other hand, you might be decimating your target with an overpowered shotgun. In this case, they’ve missed the point of niche marketing and will likely find themselves in the same situation as if attempting to go after the larger beast.

But let us say that all the research has been done properly and you’ve decided that Utah SEO is worth targeting, despite the low search count. What can you expect as as a result? What is the point of targeting an apparently tiny niche?

The point is: do you want to sell hand-painted wooden clogs or SEO services, or do you just want to be seen as someone who has something to do with SEO (or hand-painted wooden clogs). Consider what your potential customers are looking for when they conduct a search. “SEO” searchers are likely to be looking for general information on the subject. “Utah SEO” searcher, on the other hand, would likely be someone looking for a local company they would feel comfortable doing business with.

These are the visitors who are likely to become actual customers. And in the end, which would you prefer, a thousand non-committal visitors, or five or six likely customers?

What makes an article SEO? The use of a key phrase or keywords sprinkled liberally throughout a pile of gibberish? That does work, occasionally and if you’ve ever done your search and pulled up a page that had absolutely nothing to do with what you were looking for, then you were likely taken in by the duplicitous use of SEO articles.

SEO articles increase the search engine worthiness of a website. In fact the catch phrase of many web designers is content, content, content. Developing quality content is important for a web site whether it sells vitamins, candles, kids clothing or photography equipment.

Since the Internet still possesses a large number of possibilities for entrepreneurs, setting up a one man shop operation to sell any type of product to an audience that can span a continent or several is entirely possible. Setting up a website is integral to any business and not just the big boys. A part of setting up the ideal website is to make it SEO compatible, allowing search engines to not only find the website but deliver it in response to various search parameters.

Imagine opening a small storefront in a local town and providing niche items. The likelihood of finding customers is there, but you won’t be doing a $100,000 plus a year in profits in the first year by limiting to a local market. Adding a website expands the market to a wider area. Funnily enough, people in the local market may very well shop the website when they might not even have driven to the store! But when a business opens their Internet doors to commerce, they need to populate their presence across the search engines and that is where SEO articles and design come into play.

SEO articles are how businesses can increase their web traffic through visibility to search engines. Niche stores can offer decorating tips, craft advice and more. By using key phrases in entertaining and informative articles, their SEO articles fulfill a two-fold purpose: increase their visibility to search engine spiders and giving customers a reason to surf in and then stay. The possibilities for content creation are as limitless as the imagination and it doesn’t take a large company to deliver a good product or good content, it just takes a little wherewithal and creativity.
What makes an article SEO? The use of a key phrase or keywords sprinkled liberally throughout a pile of gibberish?

Right now, every SEO agency and the rest of the internet industry is talking about local search. Google even included a geographic setting so websites can be able to aim at users in a specific location. SEO experts are already anticipating enormous earnings from local search advertising in the next few years.

Although it might seem difficult at first, there are some basic local search strategies you can start including in your interactive marketing efforts, and start turning traffic into leads and ultimately into sales.

How to get started with local search

Generate Leads: Depending on the industry your business is competing in, there are many ways to generate leads. Shopping comparison sites, e.g., NextTag, Shopzilla and Amazon (to name a few), are very effective for online marketers. All these aggregators offer optimization tools to specify local search preferences. And as we always tell our clients, measure, measure measure. Use web analytics to keep an eye on those metrics that will tell you if you are spending your time and money on the right resources.

Scope a local search strategy

Once you start acting local, you will have to develop an effective interactive marketing strategy to direct your move. The basis of local search is determining the search engines that will be targeted. Google and Yahoo! control about 75% of online search traffic, so there is not much more to say/think about here. Just start optimizing your ads for these search engines.

Optimize your web pages for local search results

Get the ball rolling for the crawlers. In order to refine your website’s search engine results locally, you must make it crawler-friendly. Try to include your business name and address in your page titles along with target keywords.

Make sure your website is listed on the major search engines. For each search engine, verify your business address and the keywords used. Validate the cached description of your site to make sure is updated and the it matches what you have on your website.

Search for local vertical directories and include your site in them. Make sure that they include a link to your URL.

Local search optimization is simple and it’s a great way to put your business’s website in front of your local clients. It’s also a great first step to getting found by users in other markets. These recommendations will get you started, however, you will need to do a lot more in order to significantly improve your local search engine ranking.

If you are small business owner who is attempting to figure out the best way to implement search engine optimisation (SEO) and your target audience only consists of your local geographic location, luckily there is a way to make your efforts more effective, techniques that will see you listed higher faster.

Not many people realise that local SEO can be implemented in order to ensure your site is indexed in the correct geographic location. Google is the most popular search engine however the results it displays on Google in the UK and the results it displays on Google in America are significantly different.

You see Google places massive emphasis on relevance therefore what would be the point in showing an American company to a British audience? It is for this reason that Google takes into account local search engine optimisation (SEO) and your competition will consist of those companies targeting the same keywords in the same location as you. I want to run through a few ways of ensuring your site is locally optimised. for more detials:-www.sitemap-makers.com.Two factors Google consider when deciding where your site should be indexed is you top level domain and your hosting locality. So to ensure you are listed in the correct index, make sure your domain represents your target country ie. uk – United Kingdom Com – USA – CA – Canada etc…

The other factor is your hosting account. Google will use the IP address of your site to establish where it should be indexed. for visit detials:-www.greatseosecrets.com.This is more powerful than the above factor therefore if your hosting account is in the US but you have a co.uk domain, your site will be listed in the com index.

Another of enhancing your local SEO, is to link to other local sites, look for government sites, business directories, contact pages and other businesses within the area to link to. This will have a dramatic impact on where your site is indexed and the position of your site. Also try and write your content for the people in the area you are targeting, not every English speaking country uses the same phrases or slang. This will not help your search engine optimisation (SEO) results but will help your visitors become more profitable.

Another way of making sure your site is locally targeted is by submitting your site to Google webmaster tools and using the settings to select the country your site is targeting, this is very effective and you should see results within the first month.

Ever wondered how to attain higher local search engine rankings?. Here are a few SEO tips to strengthen organic search engine placement. Although the competition can be fierce from local businesses (who often resort to keyword stuffing) local search engine optimization is far less convoluted by comparison to national search engine placement.

Without further ado, here here is our suggestions for improving search engine visibility through local search engine optimization.

1. Include your city, state and zip code in the page you seek to have indexed.

*If you want to rank for something, it should be located somewhere on that page. Sounds simple enough right? Search engines pay particular attention to proximity as well as keyword density (the number of times the keyword appears) as well as proximity to other keywords or qualifiers.

A qualifier is a term like services, company, professional, expert, affordable, specialist, etc. and are used specifically to (a) add relevance to your keywords or (b) assist your positioning when people use them in search queries. How many times have you noticed that when you conduct a search and you see the description is a hybrid of the terms in the search box?

This is because, based on the accessibility of your content to web spiders, they can extract words outside of chronological order and truncate them in the description in order to return content with the highest exact match phrases. But once again, if those qualifiers are missing in action from the page in question, chances are your page will be missing in action for that search and one of your competitors who build their pages with keyword-rich content will get the click through on that session.

There are however ways to rank for terms that are non existent on your pages (off page link building), but that is a more advanced SEO technique. So starting with the basics make sure to add your most pertinent information to a clearly identifiable area.

2. Use the city name and abbreviation of the state in the title or description tag.

*Pages are interpreted and indexed with the intitle, inanchor and intext (pretty obvious what theses term imply) so understanding this provides one more unique opportunity to construct your pages in accordance to standards which are known to affect how search engines rank and respond to your content.

3. Hyper link the city and function of your web page in the body of the pages content.

*When employing links, the less the better for the strength of the link, also the higher up on the page a link is placed, the higher relevance it garners like Chicago Web Design Company, is a perfect example of a keyword rich, optimized hyper link that leads to a specific page with the highest relevance for the term. Not sure on how to determine which page has the strongest affinity for the keyword check out this SEO tip to find out how.

4. Add the qualifiers or specific geographic terms to the footer in addition to a local reference.

*This rule applies if you have qualifiers in the title, description and page, then solidifying the affect of the collective goal of the page for the sake of word density can be accomplished in this manor. Example: Company Name, Offering Professional Web Design Services in (City and State). For an added kick, hyper-link the main terms in the footer on every other page and point them to your about us page, which usually has the highest concentration of local and geographic information.

5. Once you have added the above information to your website, that is it. From that point, merely let the spiders do their job. These tips should increase your ranking potential via the on-page factors, for even more punch, build links to your site using exact match anchor text (local seo, local search marketing, etc.).

Speaking from first hand experience that this is a very effective local search marketing tactic. If implemented in conjunction with link building, it is merely a matter of finding a high traffic term, writing a page to match the terms with high search volume (using word tracker or another keyword discover tool) using the on page SEO tips on this page and waiting for the results to get indexed.

If you get the formula right the first time the next time you conduct a search using the local search terms, you will be able to see the response for yourself.

If you have never owned a business with an online presence, you may think that SEO refers to some seventies heavy metal rock group. Once you make the leap to the internet with your business presence, however, you will soon learn that search engine optimization is the make or break connection you need to survive in the competitive world of online commerce.

SEO simply means search engine optimization; SEO Houston is search engine optimization for local Houston-based search terms. Once you realize this, then you will know for sure and forever that SEO Houston is not a relic rock band from the past but the key to your future and you will have begun your journey into internet commerce with the ability to succeed. It is how your customers can find you in the sea of websites that exist in cyber space. Without a strong presence on the search engines your business’ online presence is likely to fail.

The Ugly Truth

“They can’t buy what they can’t find” is the phrase that most appropriately sums up the need for quality Houston SEO rank, meaning high search engine rank for Houston-based search engine terms. When people go online to find a product or service the first place they head is a search engine. It is the technique of creating a presence on the web that pulls your webpage to the top of the list by creating content that is attractive to the search engines. All of the search engines troll the net for keywords and phrases and determines how important each page is to the subject so that their viewers get the best responses for their search queries. While some are more popular than others it is important to have a good standing on as many as possible to ensure the widest exposure to potential customers.

Getting Discovered for Local Search Terms

Once your website is in the search engines, the next and even more vital goal is to be on top of the list for companies that offer the service or product you provide. This is where search engine optimization comes in. It is the technique of creating a presence on the web that pulls your webpage to the top of the list by creating content that is attractive to the search engines. SEO simply means search engine optimization; SEO Houston is search engine optimization for local Houston-based search terms. It is how your customers can find you in the sea of websites that exist in cyber space. Without a strong presence on the search engines your business’ online presence is likely to fail. All of the search engines troll the net for keywords and phrases and determines how important each page is to the subject so that their viewers get the best responses for their search queries.

Why Optimization is Important

Studies have shown that the first five listings on a search engine are the ones viewers take the most seriously. That is where you want your companies page to be listed. Once you realize this, then you will know for sure and forever that SEO Houston is not a relic rock band from the past but the key to your future and you will have begun your journey into internet commerce with the ability to succeed.

First and foremost SEO is about keywords. If you’ve selected the wrong keywords, you can do an amazing ‘SEO’ job, getting HUGE amounts of traffic, and watch your stats/logs grow exponentially, but if you sell nike shoes and your #1 for the term ‘Shoe Repair New York’ because an ‘SEO guy’ told you that you’d get better results going to the ‘long tail’ and ‘less competitive keywords, then you’ll never notice any positive effects from SEO.

Any SEO person should first identify the keywords, and go over them with you. If you are currently staffing, hiring, or have an SEO person on staff, and you don’t know what your keywords are, your wasting your money. If the ‘SEO’ person picked the keywords that have less competition because it would be easier to rank #1 for, then your SEO person doesn’t care about your leads, sales, or anything else. They want to point to google and be able to say look, your #1 on google, which is probably what you are paying them for… but it may not do you any good.

I am an ‘SEO’ person, and I see this alot. People, even my own customers don’t take the time to hash out what it is they want to get out of SEO. So the keywords I go for, are what I ‘think’ are useful to them, and what I ‘think’ should help their business, but what I think isn’t always true. I don’t know anything about most of my client’s business’. And to tell them what they should advertise for is ridiculous. I may have incite in specific areas, or have ways to help them pick, but I cannot pick for them.

Another reason SEO fails is because your audiance needs to be #1 on your mind. Just because you pick the right keywords, and you’ve got the right traffic, doesn’t mean the SEO is worth while. For example, I have some clients that want to drive traffic to their website to show off their products. The problem is, their competition is selling their products online, while my client isn’t. They want to drive foot traffic in the store. So all those people I send to their website, just get a better idea of the market before finding someone online to purchase from. Now this obviously isnt the case for local search traffic, using local keywords is very beneficial, but if you’ve got a national store, or lots of stores in lots of areas, and don’t have the time and money to advertise and market each location, then local keywords aren’t going to work.

Generally, SEO can help you. But also, generally, most SEO people want your money. They don’t really care about the service they provide, which is why the ‘big guys’ will charge thousands of dollars for a ‘consultation’ which, to them, means free money with no strings attached. Because they can say whatever they want, get your money, then they are out. You can argue with them, but you got what you paid for.

I suggest doing your own research before hiring an SEO person, or firm. There are good ones out there, you just have to find them. Google isn’t always your friend.

Let’s face it; the average business owner has neither the time nor the inclination to learn the nuances of search engine optimization. When I was first introduced to the concept of search marketing, I spent endless hours researching forums and blog trying to separate the signal from the noise. There’s no shortage of information and advice for business owners out there in theinterwebz , but finding trustworthy and reliable sources is another monster entirely. I would estimate that I invested hundreds of hours researching reliable sources ofSEO and SEM information, and I am thrilled to this day when I discover new ones. This can be a daunting prospect for a small business owner, regardless of their current level of marketing knowledge. I know when I was trying to grow my first small business, I barely had time to eat and sleep…much less surf the web for hours on end.

The real key to local search visibility is to recognize that your location is your brand. In most cases, searches with local intent rarely reflect brand terms. In the research I have seen, most local searches are industry and/or service based with geographic qualifiers. For example, “boston emergency plumber” or “san diego pediatric dentist” are more likely to be searched for than “city name + your business name”. If people are searching for your business by name, that’s great! You’ve done a great job establishing your brand! But if your sole focus is on brand promotion, you are missing out on some great opportunities to develop relationships with new customers in your area. Recent research has shown that almost 40% of allinternet searches are local in intent. If you want to maintain a lead over your competition, now is the time to take action. The following short-list of actionable items will help get you started:

1. Get listed at all of the major local search engines and telecom directories. Start with Google Local and Yahoo Local. There are also services such as UniversalBusinessListing.org which facilitate your submissions to such sites for a minor fee. If you don’t have the time to manually submit your listings, this is an excellent option.

2. Get links from related local sites, industry associations, and the chamber of commerce. One thing to keep in mind is the importance of anchor text; the clickable words that link to your website. Ask your business partners to link to your website using the phrase you want to rank for as anchor text (ie. “boston emergency plumber”, if you are a plumber in Boston). You could even incentivize your suppliers to link to you in exchange for a discount, as the value of the links gained will far outweigh the short-term costs of discounting.

3. Get reviews from customers and/or suppliers. If you go to Google and do a search for “your industry +reviews”, you should come up with a decent list of sites that contain reviews of businesses like yours. Naturally, some industries are more popular than others. If you don’t find one related to your industry, consider it an opportunity and start your own review site To continue with the discount idea noted above, why not give your customers a discount for a favorable review? Note that businesses can be given reviews directly on Google Local, but you also want your reviews to appear on reputable third party sites like Yelp.com (for restaurants), TripAdvisor.com (for hotels, etc.) or RateItAll.com (for general consumer products).

4. Consider the impact of universal search. Universal search refers to the use of non-traditional media in standard search results. Search engines generally serve up hypertext search results. With the introduction of universal search, Google now serves up video, photos, news, etc. in addition to hypertext. Get your geeky nephew to help you produce a video for Youtube. Take some funny photos of the hijinks in your office and upload them to Flickr. Ask one of your industry bloggers if you can contribute an article to their site. Submit a press release. Write an article like this and syndicate it. The opportunities are endless, if you are motivated.

Jacob Davidson is happy to share his new found knowledge of search engine marketing with other small business owners. When he is not trying to stay abreast of the latest marketing and advertising techniques, he spends his time exploring the local yellow pages for new business leads.
